LAUGH AT YOUR PAIN!

“I took my pain and put it on paper. When you read it, it turns into power.”
~ Billie Miller

I hope you are enjoying reading my blogs so far. But before I can get into the topic of today's blog, let me explain how it came about. I do most of my writing in my home office on the computer facing my window. The view and the way the light shines in the room creates the perfect atmosphere for writing. I was trying to figure out what to write about, then all of a sudden I heard “Bzzz… Bzzz…” It was a huge fly in the window. I ignored it and figured I’d deal with it later. “Bzzz… Bzzz…” The noise was too distracting.

So I got up with the intention to raise the blinds and open the window to let the fly out. But when I pulled the string to raise the blinds, the entire thing came down. The blinds fell off the hinges. I grabbed this spray water bottle that was nearby to spray the fly. Then the fly disappeared. As I tried to put the blinds back up, I saw the fly again. As I reached to grab the spray bottle, the blinds fell again. Then the fly disappeared again. Now I’m really frustrated. As I replayed the whole thing in my head all I could do is laugh. “All of this over a daggone fly!” LOL. So now I have something to write about. We’ll call it “Laugh at Your Pain”. As I sat to finish this blog I hear, “Bzzz… Bzzz…” SMH

PUT IT ON PAPER

“An unwritten goal is just a wish, a mere interest, a good idea.”
~ Billie Miller

Read this carefully, “If you have any goals, dreams, or ideas, make sure to write them down.” Writing down your goals has been preached so much that it almost sounds redundant. It almost sounds cliché. But the truth of the matter is this—Statistics prove that those who write down their goals achieve them more than those who don’t.

An unwritten goal is just a wish, a mere interest, a good idea. But when you write down your goals, it becomes more real to you. It becomes a target that you can aim at. Here are 7 major goals that you should focus on.

1. Financial Goals (saving money, debt-freedom)
2. Career Goals (promotion, leadership, salary)
3. Family Goals (spending more quality time)
4. Physical Goals (eating healthier, exercising)
5. Personal Development (read more books, learn more)
6. Charity Goals (church involvement, volunteering)
7. Fun Goals (vacation, “me-time”)

HEAR WITH YOUR HEART

“Hearing with the heart is more than just listening to words. It’s about understanding what’s being said and focusing on the person who said it.”
~ Billie Miller

An acquaintance of mine named Anthony wanted to meet up for lunch. Anthony is a visionary so I gladly met up with him. We talked about dreams, goals, purpose, leadership, career, finances, etc. But I noticed something during our conversation. When Anthony spoke, I gave him my full undivided attention. However, when it was my turn to talk, Anthony wasn’t really listening. He was just going through the motions waiting for his turn to talk. This happened each time I spoke. There were even times when I was talking that he would even cut me off to start talking again. Though we had a positive conversation, I didn’t feel very enthused afterwards. As you can guess, I didn’t reschedule to meet again.

Has this ever happened to you? Did it make you feel some kind of way? Do you want to know what’s even worse than that? I’ll tell you. You may be doing the same thing as Anthony. Don’t be the person who daydreams while others are speaking. Give people your full undivided attention. Listening is one of the best ways to make people feel valuable. Make an effort to hear with your heart by truly listening to others.
